Pinguicula - the Butterworts

 

The fleshy leaves of most species of butterwort can be damaged by sterilization agents, so seed is the preferable means of in vitro culture.  We have experimented with floating leaves in sterile water and inducing plantlets on the leaf margins in order to produce propagules for tissue culture.
